What are Liposomes?

Perhaps you have heard of liposomal supplements? The word liposome comes from the Greek words ‘lipo’ for fat and ‘soma’ for body. LIPOSOMES are spherical small carriers made up of two layers of phospholipid molecules.

Phospholipids are amphipathic molecules, meaning that they have both a hydrophilic (water-loving) head and a hydrophobic (water-hating) tail. The advantages of this for supplements is that, both water-soluble and fat-soluble active ingredients can be liposome-encapsulated and delivered to cells.

Liposomes are an excellent delivery method for nutrients. Liposomes can be used to deliver active ingredients to the body in a more targeted and efficient manner. The liposome bilayer protects the active ingredient✨from degradation in the body and allows it to circulate in the bloodstream for longer periods of time. Liposomes help to maintain long-term stable levels of the active substance in the target area. Liposomes can also be modified to target specific cells or tissues in the body.

✨Active ingredients are the substances in a drug or other product that are responsible for its desired effect. For example, the active ingredient in ibuprofen is ibuprofen itself, which is responsible for the drug’s pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects.

Liposomes are Non-Toxic, Flexible, Bioidentical & Completely Biodegradable

Liposomal products are manufactured in the highest quality standards, based on innovative technological processes giving them unique features on a global scale.

100% NATURAL INGREDIENTS | NO ADDED SUGAR | GLUTEN FREE | NON GMO | VEGAN FRIENDLY | ALCOHOL FREE: NO USAGE OF ETHANOL AT ANY STAGE OR MANUFACTURING | NO OTHER ‘UNDESIRABLE’ SUBSTANCES SUCH AS PRESERVATIVES, OR FLAVORING.

POWDER & LIQUID FORMS

There are two popular forms of liposomal products in the market at the moment, one is the liquid form the other one the powder form. They increase the absorption of the supplement tremendously and are becoming more and more popular. With their unique properties, the liposomes can be used in different areas of science, including: medicine and pharmacy, e.g., in oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology & genetics, as carriers of medications, vitamins or minerals, dermo cosmetology and cosmetology.

Small Capsules & Gel Forms, Synergestic Combinations, Reduced or No Side-effects, Increase Penetration and span the activation period

What is the Liposomal delivery system?

THE PROBLEM

The absorption and bio-availability of supplements is a problem that manufacturers and researchers in the field wrestle with. Excipients, binders, fillers and flow agents can contribute to poor disintegration rates for tablets and capsules which means poor absorption at best. The next problem is to ensure that the active ingredients move into the blood stream and reach the cells.

THE SOLUTION

Liposomes have long been used as an effective pharmaceutical delivery method. More recently the liposome delivery method is becoming more common in natural health. The active ingredients are enveloped in a bubble of phospholipids which are fat molecules that make up the main part of the cell wall.  This protects the active ingredients and allows them to better survive the digestive process and enter the intestines.  Here the liposome fuses with the cell walls and the active ingredients are released resulting in enhanced uptake into the cells and not just the blood stream. The phospholipids of the liposome are then used in the body as they are identical to the cell membrane phospholipids.

When phospholipids are dispersed in water, they self-assemble into bilayers, with the hydrophilic heads facing the water and the hydrophobic tails facing each other.

Phospholipids are the main building blocks of cell membranes. They are also found in many other parts of the body, such as the brain, liver, and lungs. Phospholipids are essential for many cellular functions, including cell signaling, cell transport, and cell division.

ADVANTAGES over Traditional or Conventional Drug Delivery

LIPOSOMAL drug delivery technology has a number of advantages over other drug delivery technologies, including:

  1. INCREASED BIOAVAILABILITY: Liposome encapsulation protect nutrients from degrading in the gastrointestinal tract from the first pass effect. This can help keep them intact through the stomach until they get to the duodenum of the small intestine or beyond which can lead to increased bioavailability of transported substances. This means more of the drug is able to reach its target site and act on the intended cells-improved absorption rate.
  2. REDUCED OR NO SIDE EFFECTS: Liposomal delivery decreases the risk of gut irritation. If you have stomach issues or digestive sensitivity, this may be a good option for you.
  3. TARGETED DELIVERY: Liposomes can be modified to target specific cells or tissues in the body. This can help to reduce the side effects of drugs and improve their efficacy.
  4. CONTROLLED RELEASE: Liposomes can be designed to release drugs over a period of time, which can help to improve the therapeutic effect of the drug – optimized dosing and reduce the need for frequent dosing.
  5. BIOCOMPATIBILITY: Liposomes are made from naturally occurring materials, such as phospholipids, which makes them biocompatible and safe for use in the body and improved treatment efficacy.

Liposomes & Chemotacticism

Chemotacticism works in an obvious way and allows the liposomes to be attracted by the same human cells’ body by the fact that they are “bio-identical” and thus releases the active ingredients, here the vitamins, into the target organs. This process offers the highest level of bioavailability..

Importance, Usage & Research

Liposomal drug delivery technology has been used to deliver a wide variety of drugs, including cancer drugs and antibiotics. It is a promising technology for improving the delivery of drugs to the body and increasing their efficacy.

Researchers are continuing to develop new and improved liposomal drug delivery systems. Liposomal drug delivery technology has the potential to revolutionize the way that drugs are delivered to the body and to improve the treatment of a wide range of diseases.
